Public Service
Community service is a fundamental aspect of MK&B's culture and persona. Public service and pro bono work are requirements for success at the firm. We encourage all lawyers and staff at MK&B to participate in a wide range of community activities and pro bono projects. In 2006, the Rockland Family Shelter honored MK&B with its Distinguished Citizen Award - the first time that an organization rather than an individual has received the award.

Rockland Family Shelter serves victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and sexual trauma in Rockland County and throughout the New York metropolitan area. Since its inception in 1979, RFS has worked to end violence against women and their children through intervention and prevention, education and training, advocacy and community action. MK&B works with RFS on many levels, including providing pro bono services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, sponsoring the RFS's law program, assisting in fund-raising events and underwriting and coordinating its annual student art competition.

The American Cancer Society and the Rockland County Relay for Life is a team event to raise funds for the fight against cancer that is sponsored each year by the American Cancer Society. MK&B's team in the last two Relays received awards for raising both the most money online and the most money by any single-site business team. MK&B was a sponsor of the 2005 and 2006 Relays and has been honored with a place on the Cancer Society's giving wall.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is an organization dedicated to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease affecting over 30,000 children and young adults. Money raised is used to fund research efforts. MK&B has been involved in numerous fundraising events.

Disasters Emergency Committee since 1963 has helped unite leading independent humanitarian agencies in the United Kingdom in their efforts to mount effective humanitarian responses to major disasters overseas such as the tsunami in December 2004. The Committee does this by facilitating agency co-operation, raising standards in the implementation of humanitarian responses and ensuring that funds are used in an effective, timely and fully accountable way.

MK&B has been featured in a case study by Drucker In Practice focusing on social responsibility in enterprises and related benefits. Drucker In Practice concluded in the MK&B case study that when social responsibility is built into the fabric of the firm, it fundamentally changes the energy level of the people and the longevity of the client relationships.
